Ladybug’s 2011 Quarterly Challenge

We challenged our customers to donate any of the following for our local nursing home residents and here's the totals we gave:

~ Walker Bags - 8 donated for 2011

~ Pillowcases - 199 donated for 2011 (128 to ConKerr and 71 to nursing homes)

~ Lap quilts - 23 donated 2011

We have a drop box for your donations. If you like to make quilt tops but not quilt them, please supply the batting and backing for our gracious ladies willing to quilt them. Thank you all so much for your support in this on-going project.

The One Million Pillowcase Challenge Continues

American Patchwork & Quilting® magazine is still challenging quilters, crafters and sewers across the country to “Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference.” Local quilting enthusiasts will join the cause to help reach the goal of making and donating one million pillowcases to benefit local charities. Every pillowcase can make a difference in your community. A pillowcase can provide comfort for a cancer patient, hope for a foster child, encouragement for a battered woman, or beauty for a nursing home resident.

 

Ladybug’s Cottage will host pillowcase events periodically. We offer some pillowcase kits using the free downloadable patterns from: http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/freepatterns/index.html. New patterns are added quarterly. Ladybug’s Cottage continues to have a container at the shop for you to put your completed pillowcases in.

 

ConKerr Cancer picks up pillowcases dropped off each month to distribute to UNC's Cancer Hospital, Duke's Children’s Hospital, and The Ronald McDonald House. Thanks a Million! With your help, Ladybug's Cottage has donated a total of 433 pillowcases: 234 in 2010 and 199 in 2011! Thanks to all of you who work so diligently to "Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference." Let's work again this year to top those totals!

 

"I would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful, colorful pillow cases that were donated to ConKerr Cancer. Your generosity is truly appreciated by all, especailly the children who recieve them. You can imagine the beautiful smiles they bring. I will be delivering 110 to Duke and 111 to Chapel Hill Children's Units in the next 2 weeks. We all need to stop and thank the Lord for our good health and ability to help others. I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a very happy, healthy New Year."
